Curriculum Overview

In today's competitive and technically challening environment, American University of Barbados is Offerinf blended learning, capable of addressing the ever-changing needs of Techno-Medical advancements, in addition to providing insights into the conventional medical practices that are currently being followed across the globe.
Pre Medical Program - 4 semesters
Basic Science Program - 5 semsters(USMLE Preparation)
Clinical Science Program - 6 semesters
(Clinical Rotations at affiliated hospitals in USA and other countries)

Clinical Sciences

In the last six semesters of the medical school's MD program, the Clinical Sciences, are designed to prepare the student to fucntion effectively in a clinical setting. 72 weeks of clinical training are divided into 48 weeks of core rotations and 24 weeks of elective rotations. The Clinical Sciences are completed during clinical rotatiosn at affiliated hospitals and clinical facilities in the USA.

The task of an excellent faculty is to collectively stimulate " seemingly ordinary" students to demonstrate extraordinary skills. The faculty at AUB are prominent intellectuals and specialits in the field of Medicine. They are comitted to students success and to an education which is rigorous and relevant. All are devoated to providing transformative learning experiences for their students. The faculty-student relationship begins with allocation of faculty to become individual mentors for rach and every student. The Student-centred approach to teaching and learning adopted by the faculty includes designing program delivery models that meet the needs of every learned, blended with classroom-based programs. Faculty courseworkgives students a releveant, practical education that will set them apart in their respective fiels as experts.

Accommodation

Students will be offered accommodation at the dorms maintained by American University of Barbados. Students will also have a choice of a variety of very comfortable, furnished housing accommodations off-Campus. Your accommodation will be provided with basic furnishings in each room, that is: a bed, night table/s, desk, chair, chest of drawers and a clothes closet. There is a communal living/lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen. There is also a dining room area. You will be provided with bed linen, kitchen utensils including cutlery, pots and pans. You will re quire to have your towels and toiletries. These items can also be purchased in Barbados. The apartments come equipped with T.V. and internet service. The apartments are two bed room apartments. Student has a choice for a single room accommodation or shared accommodation with another student. All rooms are air-conditioned.

Climate

The country generally experiences two seasons, one of which includes noticeably higher rainfall. Known as the "wet season", this period runs from June to November. By contrast, the "dry season" runs from December to May. From December to May the average temperatures range from 21 to 31 oC (70 to 88 oF), while between June and November, they range from 23 to 31 oC (73 to 88 oF).

Transport

There are direct flights from USA, Canada, UK, Amsterdam and connecting flights from most of the countries of the world. The island's lone airport is the Grantley Adams International Airport. It receives daily flights by several major airlines from points around the globe, as well as several smaller regional commercial airlines and charters.
